Four Baby Shower Decoration Ideas
Idea #1: Is it a Boy or a Girl?
Technology allows us to determine the sex of our babies months before they are due. Some people choose to furnish the child’s nursery based on this information. So why not choose a baby shower decoration in pink or blue? Practically every store carries décor in the traditional “It’s a Girl Pink” or “It’s a Boy Blue”. This is probably the most common and easiest theme for a baby shower. The number one thing to remember? Keep it simple. Pink balloons, streamers, confetti, plates, napkins and utensils can tend to overwhelm your guests. If you simply must have all of these decorations try to use a neutral color like white for balance.
Idea #2: They’re Not Finding Out
Fifty to sixty years ago, the opportunity to discover the sex of your baby was not an option. So the theme for a baby shower decoration was usually neutral, or unisex. If your friend or relative does not know the sex of their baby, choose light colors that don’t directly influence one or the other. Yellow is one of the most common colors for a unisex baby shower. Again, don’t use so much yellow that your host’s house looks like the inside of a banana nightmare. Offset the bright color with white, or you could even use a combination of both pink and blue together to celebrate the arrival of a new baby, boy OR girl!
Idea #3: Family Baby Pictures to Welcome New Baby
Remember, usually the shower is a surprise to the mom-to-be. So why not surprise her by getting all her friends and family together to gather baby photos of each other? It’s a good idea to get reprints of the photos you’re going to use – so the originals are not damaged nor lost. Then place the pictures at a table surrounded by the gifts. You could even create several small groups of photos for guests to view other family members when they were children, and it makes a nice baby shower decoration.
Idea #4: Celebrate New Mom and Dad’s Love
There’s a current trend to host co-ed baby shower events. While you future dads out there may cringe at the thought of losing out on Sunday football on TV, most baby showers are now intended for the entire family to attend. How do you choose a baby shower decoration for a co-ed event? Make it a celebration of the couple’s love for each other. Include a photo of the couple in a heart-shaped frame as a centerpiece.
Whichever method you do choose, depends on the situation. Some baby showers are surprises for the expectant mother, others include the mother in the planning phase. If you center the event around her, in any case, you’re sure to choose the right baby shower decoration that will make her happy.
